Background of the Study: Preoperative education is an essential component of surgical care, as it helps patients understand what to expect during and after surgery, reducing uncertainty and anxiety (Eze et al., 2024). Anxiety is a common response to the prospect of surgery, and it can exacerbate pain perception, lengthen recovery times, and negatively affect overall surgical outcomes (Suleiman et al., 2023). Nurses play a pivotal role in providing preoperative education, offering emotional support, and preparing patients psychologically and physically for surgery (Yakubu et al., 2023). In Bauchi State, there is limited research on the impact of preoperative education by nurses on post-surgical outcomes such as anxiety and pain management (Muhammad et al., 2024).
Effective preoperative education can significantly reduce anxiety by addressing patients' concerns and providing clear information about the surgical process (Ahmed et al., 2024). Furthermore, well-informed patients are more likely to adhere to pain management strategies and participate actively in their recovery (Aliyu et al., 2023). This study aims to evaluate the impact of preoperative nursing education on reducing post-surgical anxiety and improving pain management in Bauchi State hospitals.
Statement of the Problem: In Bauchi State hospitals, many surgical patients experience high levels of anxiety and inadequate pain management post-surgery, which can hinder recovery. The role of preoperative nursing education in addressing these issues is not well understood. This study seeks to investigate how preoperative education by nurses can reduce post-surgical anxiety and improve pain management for surgical patients in Bauchi State hospitals.

Scope and Limitations of the Study: This study will focus on surgical patients in Bauchi State hospitals, evaluating the effect of preoperative nursing education on anxiety and pain management. Data will be collected through patient surveys and interviews. A limitation of the study is the reliance on self-reported data, which may be influenced by patients’ emotional states.
